Mallory Round 12
Round 12 Results From Mallory, Sept 2011
Mixed Fortunes For Bracey Boys
Mallory Park played hosts to the Legend Cars National Championship for round 12.
We at Brace Motorsport were pleased to welcome Guttercrest Racing’s Ben Power into our awning for the days racing.
After practice the lap times showed that the race’s were always going to be close, with just 1.1 seconds covering the top 10. Dean and Nick coming in 5th and 6th fastest and Ben 2 tenths quicker in 4th.
Race 1
Nick was starting near the front and he did briefly lead before going wide at the John Cooper Esses, unfortunately Nick’s race didn’t last for much longer after a reoccurrence of a misfire that was troubling him at the last round at Oulton Park.
Dean was starting nearer to the back of the grid and at the end of lap 4 was into 3rd position but the cars in 1st and 2nd had already pulled a gap that Dean was unable to close, the last couple of laps the #4 car battled with Dean and narrowly took 3rd place from him. Dean finished a strong 4th.
Our guest, Ben Power, had a tough race and finished 6th.
Race 2
With the grid reversed from race 1 for race 2 it was Nick’s turn to start near the back and without knowing if the teams hard work between the two races had cured Nick’s misfire it was just a case of trial and error to see if it was fixed, not an ideal situation to say the least. Unfortunately the misfire was still present but Nick still managed to finish the race and salvage some points.
Dean was starting on the 2nd row and, after a early battle with the #1 car of Lawrence Davey on lap 4, Dean took the lead. Unfortunately on Lap 7 the red flag was bought out for a incident involving the Klenzan car #34 John Bell. John suffered a broken femur and had to be cut from his car. We at Brace Motorsport and the guys at Guttercrest Racing all wish John a speedy recovery.
Dean finished with the win, which was his 8th win of the year so far.
Ben Power had a strong race at the front with Dean and Lawrence but had to settle for 3rd.
Race 3
For the final race of the day Nick decided to start the race from the back of the grid as he was still unsure of whether the team had been able to fix the misfire. Thankfully after hours of hard work on his car the misfire appeared to be fixed! Nick battled his way through the pack to finish the race 12th.
Dean had to start from the back of the grid because he was the highest points scorer from the first two races. Dean slowly made his way to the front and for the last couple of laps was involved in a 5 way battle for the lead involving cars #55,#1,#12 and #4. An (avoidable) incident at the last corner of the last lap meant Dean crossed the line in 2nd.
Ben was battling hard for the lead throughout the race, not having won a race in Legends before this was looking like Ben’s race. Ben lead the 5 way fight for the lead going into the last corner and looked to have done enough to secure his first race win but the last corner incident unfortunately took Ben out of the race. This incident would end up having an effect on the whole meeting.
After the incident on track a confrontation in park ferme between drivers of cars #4 and #12 would see both drivers being excluded from the whole meeting. Thus changing the results of all 3 races.
Race 1
Dean was promoted to 2nd
Nick didn’t finish so his result stands
Ben promoted to 4th
Race 2
Nick promoted to 17th
Dean had already secured 1st so no change there
Ben finished ahead of the 2 disqualified cars so stayed 3rd
Race 3
Dean was promoted to 1st.
Nick promoted to 10th.
Ben due to the incident didn’t finish the race.
Dean is now 2nd in the Championship just 320 points behind #12 Stephen Treherne with 4 rounds to go and 2400 points still available.
Nick is currently sitting in 10th due to the recent bad luck he has had but will no doubt improve on that in the rounds to come.
