Croft – September 2012
Croft
“It’s a funny old game”
I can’t say solely if it was a good weekend or if it was a bad one but we came away with mixed feelings after this round at Croft and I have to say it isn’t our favourite track by a long way, anyhow, this was how it went; First off, qualifying; Dean Brace 2nd, Nick Brace 3rd, Ben Power 4th, so not to shabby a start.
The first race came and went with Dean Brace coming in 4th, Nick Brace finishing 8th and Ben Power taking the glory in 2nd place. Ben was on the pace but the Brace Motorsport boys were well off it as they struggled with the handling of the cars. Dean scratching his arse and Nick scratching his head didn’t seem to help the situation much and it showed in the results of the second race.
Race 2 saw Dean crossing the line in 5th, Nick in 6th and Guttercrest’s Ben showing them how it’s done by coming home in 2nd yet again. Ben’s performance from Cadwell was just the beginning for him and on a great high Ben went into Race 3 feeling confident.
Race 3 didn’t prove to be the best of the bunch as hoped. Nick suffered a DNF after he was drilled into the armco while Dean came through in 5th again and Ben Power just couldn’t get enough of the 2nd place finish. A great day for Ben but the boys were well and truly on the back foot, this resulted in a sleepless night for Nick and he was up at the crack of dawn changing Deans car set up for Sundays racing.
Nick’s hard work must have paid off as in a very wet Race 1 Dean won by over 12 seconds, and was the class of the field. Nick himself wasn’t so lucky ending in 8th after he and Lawrence had two offs together during the battle of racing. Ben was struggling in 10th.
Race 2 began and Dean hit the front right from the off. He was away with the mixer when unfortunately, of his own doing, he span out going back down the order to 7th. A true gutsy drive would see him get back up to 2nd at the flag. Ben came home in 6th place whilst Nick made an error and ripped the front right off his car resulting in another DNF.
Race 3 had Nick getting to the front on the first lap with Lawrence on his tail, but an over enthusiastic move by Lawrence on the first lap saw the pair pirouetting like ice dancers in the damp conditions in front of the whole grid. Nick got on the grass and restarted but Lawrence had an untimely meeting with James Holman. Dean had a race long scrap with Guy Fastres but Guy had the edge and took the win with Dean crossing in 2nd, Ben in 4th and after two offs Nick came home in 7th.
Dean won the day overall and is now second in the championship, Ben is third and Nick is……somewhere else!
Pembrey next, the general consensus is we are not over the moon with our results, Dean winning Sunday overall is great but we have very high standards and we are under performing, this must change!
Big congratulations to Kaylie Brace and Jack on the birth of their second child, the gorgeous Dolly-Marie. Also to Alex and Haylie on the arrival of their beautiful daughter Lexie Rose. The family never seems to stop growing at Brace Motorsport, but let’s try and pause it for a while eh guys? Motor racing is expensive enough without all the kids we keep producing and we are definitely running out of space in the camper’s, haha.
See you at Pembrey.
